Online Interviewing and Transcribing — What no one tells you — Part 2

So, the interviewing is done and details of the incidents involved can be found in the previous post (perhaps I’ll figure out how to make a magic box in this post that gives you, the dear reader, fluent access before you decide to go any further with this little indulgence).

Yes!!

Having carried out lots of interviews, with most lasting over 30 minutes I was feeling pretty smug about my efforts and awarded myself numerous pats on the back and glasses of wine for effort and commitment. Having never transcribe anything before I was about to dive into a world of innate silliness, tense moments and develop fluency with digital controls that made sound travel back in time.

My first attempt involved opening a blank Word processing file, entering the participants name, time and date of interview and a code for the school in which they work. So far so good. Next, I opened the video file and was greeted with my face (actual screen shot used in Medium profile picture) on the right and the interviewee on the left. Happy days…
