First Draw, Dilemmas, and New Hopes.
The anticipation was palpable as the first draw of our lotto syndicate approached. We, eight teachers bound together by the shared dream of winning big, had high hopes for a life-changing outcome. Little did we know that this initial experience would take us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, dilemmas, and renewed determination.
One question lingered in our minds: What would happen if we won, but some of our colleagues who hadn’t opted into the syndicate also matched the winning numbers? In a small school like ours, with only 16 staff members, it was likely that half of them would not have participated. Would guilt consume us? Would we choose to share our newfound wealth with those who missed out?
Just moments before the first draw, one member of our syndicate suggested clicking a link and signing a common contract to ensure an equal share and plans for going public. It wasn’t a bad idea, but concerns arose. Would the conspicuousness of our sudden wealth, perhaps evidenced by my envisioned golden leather suit, inadvertently reveal our win? Furthermore, what if the last member of our group hadn’t covered their entry fee before the draw? Dilemmas abounded at this early stage of our lottery journey.
